Situation

A Colombian palm oil manufacturer operates SEW-EURODRIVE 60 gearboxes in its production line. Using a conventional mineral oil, the gearboxes required oil changes at least once per year. In an effort to improve productivity and enhance sustainability, the company approached Lubricantes del Oriente, a licensed ExxonMobil distributor, to identify a lubricant solution capable of extending oil drain intervals.

Recommendation

Lubricantes del Oriente engineers recommended the company switch to Mobil SHC™ 634synthetic gear oil. Mobil SHC 634 gear oil is designed to provide outstanding and balanced performance and longer oil life in demanding applications at high and low temperatures. Impact

After transitioning to Mobil SHC 634 synthetic gear oil, the company successfully extended oil drain interval of its gearboxes to 11 years, which includes continuous production for five-month intervals on multiple occasions. During this time, the company only had to top off the oil with approximately 4% of the gearboxes’ total lubricant capacity. In addition, Mobil SHC 634 gear oil helped reduce oil waste.
