Mobil SHC™ 634 synthetic gear oil helps Mexican copper mine extend equipment life
Estimated annual savings of more than
US $145KSituation
A Mexican copper mine installed two Flender SDN400 gear reducers in its crushing area drive conveyors. The life expectancy of the equipment was 60,000 hours and oil drain intervals were recommended at six months with the use of mineral gear oils. Since the gear reducers are critical to the mine’s operations, the company approached ExxonMobil to identify a lubricant solution capable of providing superior equipment protection.
Recommendation
ExxonMobil engineers recommended switching to Mobil SHC™ 634, a synthetic gear lubricant formulated to provide outstanding
equipment protection and increased oil life. The engineers also recommended the use of Mobil Serv℠ Lubricant Analysis to monitor oil and equipment condition on a routine basis.
Result
Since transitioning to Mobil SHC 634 synthetic gear oil, the company reports that it has extended the life expectancy of its gear reducers by more than 50,000 hours, which has helped increase productivity and reduce maintenance downtime. Oil analysis results revealed that both units were experiencing low levels of wear as they continued to operate well past 60,000 hours.
