Mobilgear SHC™ 6800 synthetic gear oil helps kraft linerboard manufacturer enhance operational efficiency
Estimated 15-year savings of more than
US $417KSituation
A kraft linerboard manufacturer operates Koppers kopflex couplings at its Georgia plant. Due to insufficient lubricant coverage on the gear teeth of the couplings, which resulted in lockup and reduced sliding, the couplings were experiencing multiple failures per year. In order to improve operational efficiency of the couplings, the company approached ExxonMobil to identify a lubricant solution capable of reducing coupling failures.
Recommendation
ExxonMobil engineers recommended switching to Mobilgear SHC™ 6800 synthetic gear oil, which is formulated to provide exceptional oxidation resistance and low-temperature fluidity for improved gear efficiency and extended operating life.
Result
After transitioning to Mobilgear SHC 6800 gear oil, the company reported a reduction in refiner motor bearing failures from an average of four times per year to less than one, thereby enhancing operational efficiency. Switching to Mobilgear SHC 6800 gear oil has also helped improve the couplings’ gear teeth lubrication by eliminating metal-to-metal contact. Finally, Mobilgear SHC 6800 synthetic gear oil has helped improve coupling lubrication to enhance equipment protection and improve overall plant productivity, generating a company-estimated annual savings of US $27,800.
