Mobilgrease XTC™ helps mining company extend re-greasing intervals and improve operational efficiency
Customer annual savings of
US $625,000Situation
Minera Peñasquito S.A. de C.V. operates a network of four mill feed pumps equipped with Falk gear couplings – models 1070 G20 and 1140T10C. The coupling units work at 253 RPM in temperatures ranging from 90° Fahrenheit (32 C) to 97 F (36 C). Rigorous operating conditions and demanding production schedules required significant maintenance downtime, as the company was forced to relubricate every 720 hours. Frequent regreasing intervals with the competitive grease have inflated the labor and disposal expenses associated with the couplings. The company approached Aceites Lubricantes de Chihuahua, S.A. de C.V. (ALCHISA), an authorized ExxonMobil distributor, to determine an alternative solution capable of enhancing equipment protection and extending regreasing intervals.
Recommendation
ALCHISA engineers recommended transitioning to Mobilgrease XTC™ coupling grease. Formulated with a high viscosity base oil and heavy duty additive package, Mobilgrease XTC™ grease is scientifically engineered to provide low bleed as well as high-temperature stability – properties critical to coupling lubrication and protection.
Result
After 10 months in service, Mobilgrease XTC™ coupling grease has helped maintain outstanding equipment performance despite extreme conditions. Maintenance personnel reported the coupling in excellent condition even after successfully extending regreasing intervals on its gear couplings from just 720 hours to 2,160 hours (helping generate an estimated savings of US $625,000 through reduced maintenance intervention and unscheduled downtime). The company has also helped limit employee-equipment interaction, and reduce used grease generation associated with frequent regreasing.
