Situation

TISCO Mining Co., Ltd’s Jianshan iron mine introduced 35 sets of BELAZ dumpers with hydraulic sumps of about 200 liters and carrying capacities of up to 130 tons. Using a generic brand of hydraulic oil, the mining dumper hydraulic systems incurred high temperatures that averaged 100°C in the summers. This cost the mine significant downtime as work could not resume until the overheating problem was managed.

Recommendation

An ExxonMobil Lubrication Engineer identified the source of the problem using Mobil Planned Engineering Services (PES) and recommended Mobil DTE 10 Excel™ 46 hydraulic oil for the hydraulic system of the mining dumpers.

Result

After using Mobil DTE 10 Excel™ 46 hydraulic oil, the mining dumpers have been operating smoothly. Their operating temperatures were lowered to an average of 60°C, avoiding 1,575 hours of unscheduled downtime. This amounted to a savings of US $823,746 within half a year.
