Red Lamborghini using Mobil 1™ motor oil

Twin-turbo supercars rely on Mobil 1™ motor oil

Underground Racing, based in Charlotte, N.C., installs turbocharger systems that transform Lamborghinis, Ferraris and other high-powered, exotic vehicles into world record-breaking monsters of speed. This supercar shop warranties their their turbocharged engines only with the exclusive use of Mobil 1™ advanced full synthetic motor oil.

When Underground Racing wants to push twin-turbo Lamborghinis to record speeds, they select a single synthetic motor oil brand, Mobil 1. Hear KC Howeth explain why he believes nothing else comes close to the protection of Mobil 1 motor oil in extreme, record-breaking conditions.

Turbocharged supercars depend on Mobil 1 motor oil

Turbochargers create an extra boost of power for engines, but they also create extreme heat in the process. Motor oil can exceed 400 degrees Fahrenheit, which is about twice the average heat found in non-turbo engines, making proper lubrication critical in turbocharged applications. "Until we started turbocharging [our engines], we didn’t really realize how critical that was," explains KC Howeth, Co-Founder of Underground Racing. "Mobil 1 technology is able to help us because the engines can survive through that extreme amount of heat and horsepower."

After testing other motor oils, the mechanics and engineers at Underground Racing discovered it was Mobil 1 advanced full synthetic motor oil that provides the engine protection necessary to withstand the extreme speeds, engine heat and raw power their turbo-equipped supercars produce.

"Honestly, nothing’s come close to the protection that Mobil 1 offers," says Howeth.

With Underground Racing’s extreme approach to supercar building and speed, they continually put that turbo engine protection to the test. The lubricant technology of Mobil 1 motor oil helped Underground Racing push their engineering to its limits by setting a half-mile land speed record in a turbocharged Lamborghini Huracan – rocketing across the finish line at 259.6 mph.
